Agronomist Engineer and PhD in Biotechnology from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) with over 15 years of experience in plant biotechnology projects. After a research stay at Ghent University (Belgium), he joined the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Plant Biology (IBMCP), a CSIC-UPV joint institute, where he managed industry-collaborative projects until leaving in 2021 to found Madeinplant. He holds a Business Innovation specialization from UPV and a Project Management qualification in Pharma/Biotech and Start-ups from La Salle–Ramon Llull. Since 2018, he has focused on technology valorization and business innovation initiatives.

Biotechnologist from the University of Salamanca, with an MSc in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the Free University of Berlin, and a PhD in Plant Molecular Physiology from the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology (MPIMP) in Potsdam. Her doctoral thesis focused on improving photosynthesis and plant yield through genetic modification of chloroplasts. She then joined the Plant Protection Products Safety department at the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) in Berlin, where she contributed to the development and implementation of European regulations on toxicology and pesticide safety.
Since 2024, Mercedes has led technical development at Madeinplant, managing research projects and applying her scientific and regulatory expertise in a dynamic environment.
In her free time, she is an avid reader and enjoys flamenco.


Biochemist with a PhD in Plant Biology and Biotechnology, and an MSc in Molecular and Cellular Plant Biotechnology. She carried out her PhD at CRAG, where she characterized key proteins involved in gene silencing in plants. She participated in several projects focused on plant defense against pathogens, virus detection, and post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. Additionally, she contributed to the functional characterization of essential viral proteins involved in these processes.
In 2025 she joined Madeinplant to develop new synthetic biology tools focused on the design and production of synthetic chromosomes in potato, applying innovative strategies for genome engineering and crop improvement.
Outside the lab, she enjoys dancing salsa and playing basketball.

A biologist with an MSc in Molecular Biology from the University of Antioquia (Medellín, Colombia) and a PhD carried out in the Hormonal Signaling and Plant Plasticity group at the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Plant Biology (IBMCP), a joint UPV-CSIC center. Her PhD focused on a protein complex associated with the HSP90 chaperone in Arabidopsis thaliana, gaining expertise in genome editing, biochemistry, cell biology, and plant physiology. In 2022, she contributed to the National Plan project (PID2019-109925GB-I00) studying prefoldins.
In 2024, she joined Madeinplant as a Product developer.
Laura is passionate about everything that connects her to her roots, from Neotropical flora and fauna to Latin American cuisine and culture. She enjoys hiking and exploring new places.

Biotechnologist from the University of Salamanca with an MSc in Molecular and Cellular Plant Biotechnology from the Polytechnic University of Valencia. He completed his MSc thesis at the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Plant Biology (IBMCP), a joint UPV-CSIC center, presenting a project titled “Comparison of genetic editing and base-editing systems based on CRISPR/Cas9 and CRISPR/Cas12 technology.”
He is currently pursuing a PhD in optimizing gene-editing tools for strategic crops in the Valencian Community.
In his free time, he enjoys hiking and climbing.

An oceanographer and biotechnologist, she began her molecular biology career at the Torre la Sal Aquaculture Institute, developing DNA vaccines for fish. Her interest in marine-derived biocompounds led her to complete the MSc in R&D in Biotechnology and Biomedicine at the University of Valencia. Afterwards she conducted her master’s thesis work at Madeinplant, where she developed growth factors for the cultivated meat industry.
In 2024 Uxue joined the team as a technician, collaborating on product development pipelines and overseeing quality control, leveraging her prior experience in microbiology and cell culture.
In her free time, Uxue is passionate about the sea and enjoys swimming and recreational scuba diving.

Native to Australia, Nicotiana benthamiana has established itself as the benchmark platform in plant biomanufacturing. Easy to grow in greenhouses and compact in size, it completes its growth cycle in just 6–7 weeks, generating large amounts of biomass in small spaces.
Its naturally weakened immune system facilitates genetic transformations, which, together with its fully sequenced genome, allows for both transient and stable expression of recombinant proteins with high efficiency.
Thanks to these properties, N. benthamiana is widely used at Madeinplant for the production of biomolecules and as a test plant for biotechnological tools.
